MG: Once the Priciest Home in the U.S., a Nearly 90-Year-Old Megamansion in Los Angeles Relists for $175 Million
The estate returns to the market asking $10 million more than it was last year
One of the priciest homes in the U.S., a grand Los Angeles megamansion, has returned to the market with a $10 million price bump.
Relisted on Tuesday, the Bel-Air estate, known as Casa Encantada, is now asking $175 million, up from its November listing price of $165 million. It once carried a $250 million price tag, making it, at the time, the priciest home for sale in the U.S.
The 60-room mansion was built in 1937 by architect James E. Dolena for Hilda Weber, the widow of a multimillionaire glass manufacturer. Weber sold it to hotel magnate Conrad Hilton in 1950 for $225,000, Mansion Global previously reported. After Hilton died, billionaire businessman David Murdock bought the property for $12.4 million, a price record at the time.
Casa Encantada last sold in 2000 for $94 million, according to records on PropertyShark, also a sale record for its time. It was bought by billionaire Gary Winnick, founder of telecommunications company Global Crossing, who died in 2023 at age 76.
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency holds the listing.
