Dirt: Skrillex Fetches $17.5M for Modern Malibu Beach House
It’s been almost five years since Sonny Moore, better known to his fans as Skrillex, paid $6 million for a vacant plot of land in a luxe Malibu gated community. Since then, he’s built a brand-new custom home, and now the eight-time Grammy winner has sold the property, netting $17.5 million for the place that was originally listed for upwards of $24 million in late 2020. The still-hefty sold price nabbed the new owners an all-new Doug Burdge-designed mansion, complete with a movie theater, gym, sauna and game room. There’s also a separate guest apartment.
Ranked as the 16th richest DJ in the world, with an estimated net worth of $50 million, Skrillex is busier than ever after laying low for the past few years. The L.A.-born music producer, 33, has collaborated with everyone from Korn, Lil Pump, Diplo and Lady Gaga, to Burna Boy and Boys Noize, and he’s putting out new tracks with the likes of Justin Bieber, Don Toliver, Starrah and Swae Lee. At one time, Skrillex was lead singer for the post-hardcore band From First to Last, before vocal cord surgery in ’07 forced him off the road and he embarked on a solo/DJ career.
Perched blufftop on an acre of land and in a gated community of 17 similarly large mansions, the snazzy modern masterpiece was completed in 2020, and features stunning ocean and mountain vistas. A gated driveway leads to the six-bedroom, 10-bath structure, which contains 12,000 square feet of open-concept living space rife with a mix of stone and wood, vaulted ceilings, and walls of glass throughout for seamless indoor/outdoor living.
The listing was held by Kurt Rappaport and Kevin Booker of Westside Estate Agency.
