AD: Helen Mirren Lists Revamped Hollywood Hills Home for $12 Million

The star of The Queen has owned the storied property since the 1980s

Want to own a piece of Hollywood history? Dame Helen Mirren and her husband, director Taylor Hackford, are once again looking to offload their Hollywood Hills estate—this time for $12 million, marking a serious discount from the $18.5 million price tag attached when they first listed it in 2021. Built in 1911 for silent film star Dustin Farnum, the property has been owned by Mirren and Hackford since the 1980s. Previous residents of the contemporary Mediterranean-style villa are the prolific Golden Age star-turned-television producer Gail Patrick, and Mark Hellinger, a journalist and television producer. End of list. “It’s very unusual to have a house that’s over 100 years old and it’s only had four owners over that time,” Hackford told the Wall Street Journal in 2021.

In addition to the two-story, 6,600-square-foot main house, the estate also boasts a three-bedroom guesthouse and a garage complete with an upstairs office and apartment. Outside the primary home, brick steps lead down to a rectangular swimming pool. Numerous sprawling terraces and landscaped outdoor spaces offer panoramic Los Angeles views. In total, the compound spans 10,200 square feet, with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. “Although it’s a big house, it doesn’t feel like a big house,” Mirren said of the pad in 2021. “You don’t feel like you’re a little pea in a huge pod rattling around.”

The 6.5-acre property has gone on and off the market several times in recent years since Mirren and Hackford relocated to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe in early 2020. It was most recently up for rent with a $30,000-a-month price tag this January, according to Zillow. In hopes of finally finding a buyer, Mirren and Hackford invested in a refresh; the couple tapped Vesta Home to design and stage its interiors, blending classic Hollywood and laid-back modern Californian styles.

Jonas Heller and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency have the listing.
